Digital Futures 2023 Finalists

A group of Year 9 students entered this years’ Digital DNA app innovation competition, with the hopes of winning the top prize - an all-expenses paid trip to Silicon Valley in San Francisco. The team consisting of Oliver Redmond, Oran Ramsden, Matthew Taylor, and Alfie Lonergan were tasked with designing an app prototype and pitching to a team of IT experts.

The boys created IG (Ingenious Food) an application that helps reduce food wastage by offering meal suggestions, tracking expiry dates, and suggesting health tips based on the users’ purchasing habits. The boys were selected as one of 25 teams from across the province to attend the Semi-finals at the PWC HQ in Belfast on 4th May.

They got the chance to tour PWC and see their IT department in action. The boys were very successful and chosen as one of 6 teams to go through to the final held live on the Main stage of the Digital DNA 2023 conference at St Georges Market on Wednesday 7th June. The boys were given access passes to the event, where they could interact with other start-up companies and industry leaders in the hope of inspiring the next generation of coders. The boys gave a fantastic pitch and were commended on their ability to speak publicly by the judging panel. Well done!
