Fundraising and Generating Income

RBAI is a category B Voluntary Grammar school. The School receives funding from the Department of Education towards teaching and learning, however, it does not receive any capital support towards the upkeep of the School estate. Philanthropy, income from investments and fees from parents form a critical element of the funding to support the School’s Improvement Plan.

The Scholarship & Exhibition Programme continues to reward excellence and outstanding ability, giving the most talented academics, sportsmen and artists the best possible opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Fees Bursary Scheme

The Governors of the RBAI believe that no boy should be denied an education at the School if he has, or has obtained, a place at the School because his parents or guardians cannot afford to pay the fees which the School charges. And so, the Governors have a Scheme which is known as “the Fees Bursary Scheme” to support parents or guardians who find themselves in this position. If the Governors decide to give support, it is called giving “a Bursary”.

The Fees Bursary Scheme is funded in part from the School’s own funds, but also from the generosity of old boys and others who wish to help the Governors and they make donations to the School so that it can provide these bursaries.

When the Governors are deciding if they should give a Bursary, they will take the following matters into account:

  • The household income;
  • The number of children in the family;
  • The assets that the family own.

Application forms for the Scheme are available from the School Office or from the website. The Scheme operates on an annual basis over each academic year, so an application for a bursary must be made every year.

As a rough guide, if your annual family income is less than £25k, you are likely to be eligible for a bursary. If your household income is more than £45k, you are unlikely to be eligible for financial support.
