Prize Distribution 2024

Annual Prize Distribution took place on Thursday 17th October. Our Guest of Honour was Professor Paul Seawright, OBE PhD, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ulster University. Not only has Professor Seawright enjoyed an illustrious academic career, notably as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences, Head of Belfast School of Art and Dean of Art, Media and Design at the University of Wales, he is an authority on research strategy, advising universities worldwide.

In addition, Professor Seawright is an internationally acclaimed artist. His work appears in many museum collections, including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Tate, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, International Centre of Photography New York, Arts Councils of Ireland, England and Northern Ireland, the UK Government Collection and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome.

The distinguished guest’s address was a refreshing reminder of the significance of the Arts in contemporary society. Indeed, Professor Seawright reminded us of the healing potential of art within our own culture. At a time when the national trend is the promotion of STEM subjects as the most desirable focus for tertiary education, the potential of the Arts to unite communities and provide inclusive spaces should be equally valued.

We had much reason for celebration this year. With the academic achievements of our pupils above the national average, in spite of the forecast return to pre-pandemic levels, and a clean-sweep of co-curricular wins, the afternoon was an excellent opportunity to reflect on the achievements of our pupils, the hard work of our staff and the support of parents. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special celebration.
