Tennis has been played at RBAI since the game first developed is a popular sport played in the Summer Term. There are four school teams – Year 8, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Each team consists of four players but a squad of six is usually selected to enable flexibility and allow for injuries.
The boys represent the school in a range of fixtures against many other schools across Ulster. There have been a range of successes in these competitions, the most recent was in 2017 when we won the Senior School’s Cup competition and we were also the runners-up in 2018. We use Belfast Boat Club as our home base for training and matches.
There are opportunities to compete at all levels and boys are encouraged to compete in matchplay competitions to get Ulster Tennis and Tennis Ireland ratings and Belfast Leagues to gain match experience. A number of boys over the years have received representative honours for Ulster at U14 and U18 level and we would be confident this will continue to be the case for many years to come.
