Table Tennis

The R.B.A.I. Table Tennis Club has resumed after a number of years with high numbers of participants attending the club on Wednesday lunch times for year 8, 9 and 10 and Thursday lunch times for years 11 and 12. The Club has been incredibly popular and we have over 100 students regularly attend each week. We have been fortunate to have some high quality players who have represented the school in a number of competitions this year.

Before half term, RBAI had two teams that took part in the Ulster Table Tennis Team Championships. We entered a team in the Under 13’s Boy competition and one in the Under 15 competition.

Our Under 15 team consisted of Joel Hewitt, Dylan Morrow, John Cunningham, Matt Courtney, Luke Livingstone and captained by Tom Alderdice. The boys faced tough opposition from schools such as Grosvenor Grammar School and Monaghan Collegiate School. The boys played exceptionally losing on match and winning the rest and ended up Runners Up to the eventual winners Grosvenor Grammar School.

Our Under 13 team consisted of Christopher Allsop, Dylan Shanmuganathan, Max Wilson, Ryan McBride, Bryson McClelland, David Agnew and captained by Aaditya Singh. The boys faced tough opposition from schools such as Grosvenor Grammar School, Killicomaine Junior High School and Banbridge Academy. The team won each match without losing a single game and became the Ulster Schools Table Tennis Team Champions for the 2nd Year in a row. As a result the qualify to represent Ulster in the All-Ireland Table Tennis Championships in Dublin in April.

Well done to all those who took part in the Championship.

On Wednesday 29th March, RBAI entered pupils in the Ulster Table Tennis Individual Championships. Pupils were entered into the Under 12 and Under 14 tournament.

Our Under 12 contingent consisted of Bryson McClelland, Sam Mathers and Harry Greer. The boys faced tough opposition from pupils from schools such as Grosvenor Grammar School, St Louis Grammar Kilkeel, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School and Killicomaine Junior High School. The boys played exceptionally well with Bryson McClelland reaching the Semi Finals of the Plate tournament. Harry Greer reached the Semi Finals of the Cup Competition losing a hard fought Semi 2-1. Sam Mathers reached the final of the Cup competition, it was a hard fought final with Sam beaten 2-1.

Our Under 14 team consisted of Christopher Allsop, Dylan Shanmuganathan, Max Wilson, Ryan McBride, and Aaditya Singh. The boys faced tough opposition from schools such as Grosvenor Grammar School, Killicomaine Junior High School and Sullivan Upper. Dylan reached the second round for the plate tournament and Ryan and Max reached the quarter finals of the cup competition. Aaditya and Christopher won all their knockout games to create an all Inst final. Another hard fought game with both pupils giving it their all to win. Unfortunately some one had to lose and Aaditya came out on top winning 2-0 in the final to become the Under 14 Ulster Table Tennis Champion.

Well done to all those who took part in the Championship.
