Rowing has been a sporting option at RBAI since the 1930’s, with the School being one of only four in Northern Ireland to offer the facilities which allow boys to participate in such an activity.
Training takes place at the purpose-built Boat House in Stranmillis, South Belfast, as well as in the main School campus gym and pool. Membership of the Club starts in year 11, will a full introduction to the sport and the training required to compete, building through to six-day-a-week training for the seniors. Training involves working in the gym, on rowing machines, circuit training, swimming and on-the-water work.
The Club competes at events all over Ireland and the UK, including attending the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta. Past members have represented the School at Irish Junior International level, with Old Boys going on to represent Ireland at World Under-23 level.
The School Rowing Club offers a great opportunity for pupils to participate and compete safely in this fun, energetic, outdoor team sport which can really bring out the best in any RBAI pupil.
