18 Scouts and Explorer Scouts visited Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland over 9 days last week. The founder of Scouting, Lord Baden-Powell, founded this World Scout Centre 100 years ago this year. Our members not only spent 7 nights under canvass on the campsite but got to hike to 1,854m and stay at the Gfellalp Hut in the Swiss Alps. The boys enjoyed meeting Scouts from all over the world; taking a dip in the glacial lake at the stunning Oeschinensee; climbing to the scenic Golitchen Alpine Cheesery at 1,833m; rafting on the crystal clear and warm white water of the River Aare from Thun; swimming in the outdoor pool at Kandersteg; singing songs and telling stories at various campfires.
This permanent mini jamboree aims to create a better world of sustainability and peace through international Scouting. Our Scouts certainly grasped more of these honourable goals during this trip as well as meeting the various challenges of camping for so long and undertaking the many Scouting challenges. Well done to all 15 Scouts for successfully meeting these challenges and to Explorers Yago Azuara-Lois, Cameron Colgan and Oliver Mercer who led so well. Thanks to old boy Mr Ben McKeown, Mr Roy and Mr D Scott for supervising the camp so well too.
