On February 22nd, 74th Belfast Scout Group at RBAI hosted Lagan District to commemorate the birthday of Scouting’s founder Lord Robert Baden Powell of Gilwell and to celebrate Scouting, especially a century in the Group.
The event began with the superb Down Academy Pipe Band leading 74th, 44th, 62nd, 81st, 109th and 115th Groups out of RBAI and around the City Hall to an audience of hundreds of onlookers. The sun even shone for the parade!
A service of thanksgiving then took place in the school Dining Hall with a congregation of about 225 people. Mr Ashley Parks, Assistant Minister at Malone Presbyterian Church and Explorer Scout team member, led a wonderful service where our young people led us in testimonies, readings and prayers. Ashley talked to us about the Prodigal Son, the Father’s love and family. Mrs Carol-Anne Mayberry and her friends from Immanuel Church, Millisle led us in worship beautifully. Our District Lead Volunteer Mr Norman McKee helped us to renew our Scout promises. £594.55 was collected for our local charity Storehouse Belfast. The afternoon was completed with light refreshments. This event was the best way to begin the Group’s centenary celebrations!
