On Friday 27th February, RBAI hosted a conference on Well-Being. This allowed for the sharing of best practice with 170 education professionals from across Northern Ireland. The conference highlighted and elaborated upon the PERMAV framework that is the focal point of pupil Well-Being at RBAI.
The event featured presentations from two keynote speakers: Dr Lee-Ann Sharp, UU Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology which focused on ‘The power of Psychological Science in education.’ A second presentation was delivered by Mrs Vicky Davis, OBE, CEO Danske Bank on ‘contribution to society and lifelong learning.’
Delegates were then encouraged to attend two out of six workshops on offer which focused upon various aspects of the PERMAV Well-Being framework. These included –
· Positive emotions: Mr Steven McMullan (Senior Teacher, RBAI) and Mr Martin McDowell (Board of Governors)
· Engagement: Mr Ralph Magee (Ex Principal Andrews Memorial Primary School and current Board of Governor)
· Relationships: Mrs Jacqui Morrisey (The Churchill Fellowship)
· Meaning: Mr Jonny Beckett (founder of Wing It)
· Achievement: Professor Noel Purdy, OBE (Director of Research and Scholarship,Stranmillis University)
· Vitality: Mr Cormac Venney (owner of Hip Psychology)
Exhibition stalls with a focus on well-being included the RBAI library, Young Enterprise and Music Department, as well as alumni Brian John Spener (local artist), Hip Psychology, Resolute Minds, The IRFU Charitable Trust, Stranmillis University, Mount Charles and Wing It.
