On Wednesday 18th September around 120 parents/guardians of boys in year 13 attended the annual information evening in the Dining Hall. The purpose of the evening is to make parents aware of the transition from GCSE to AS level and the changes this means in terms of timetable and non-timetabled expectations of the school, support required of the parents and to enhance channels of communication between home and school.

The Principal welcomed everyone to the event before Mr Peak presented the main part of the evening. The main theme of the talk was Realising potential together. How this could be achieved through support for the pupil from both school and home, the importance of attendance and use of time in both private and home study. This year, for the first time, the importance of well-being and the development of a growth mind-set was outlined to parents along with simple tips for how they could support their sons in this at home.

Thanks go to Adam Cooke who very honestly shared his experience on both use of time in private study, getting the balance of work correct and the usefulness of work experience respectively. Mr McAfee then outlined the importance of focussed use of private study.

The evening closed with Mr Peak thanking all for their attendance and inviting parents to ask any questions to any of the staff available.

Please note the PowerPoint used is attached for anyone who was unable to attend and further copies of the booklet can be collected, by your son, from the office in the 6th form centre.
