RBAI CCF RAF cadets attended Air Experience Flying (AEF) at 13 AEF in JHC FS Aldergrove on Tuesday 07 November. Fortunately, the fine weather allowed for all cadets to fly and to complete aerobatic manoeuvres. Each cadet gets twenty-five minutes in the Grob Tutor T1 aircraft. They learn, and practice, controlling the aircraft and executing aerobatic manoeuvres. RAF Cadets are eligible for AEF upon completion of ‘The Second Class Cadet’ qualification of the RAF cadet syllabus. The flying experience is the crowning activity to flight simulator practise and the ‘Leading Cadet’ qualification in Airmanship Knowledge, Basic Navigation and Principles of Flight.
On the day, cadets are given an initial safety brief. Then they sit a practical test of the process of bailing from the aircraft. The process involves deploying the canopy, unbuckling the harness, escaping the aircraft, deploying the parachute, and inflating the flotation device. Once that has been successfully completed, cadets await their flying slot.
