The RBAI Golf teams compete at all ages with a strong emphasis on Participation and Excellence. There are three teams in all
1) Year 8 and 9
Pupils in these year groups compete for the McDowell Cup against Coleraine Grammar School. This is an annual competition which allows 10 to 12 players of traditionally higher handicaps to represent the School.
2) Junior Team
The Junior team consists of players from Year 11 and below. The pupils in the Junior team would tend to have a mid-level handicap. This team will compete in two GUI events, the Irish Schools’ Junior Strokeplay and the Ulster Schools’ Junior Championship. If the team win the Ulster Section of the Irish Junior Strokeplay they would qualify for the All-Ireland final.
3) Senior Team
The Senior team is for the elite golfers in the school and would tend to have low single figure handicaps. They also compete in two GUI events, the Irish Schools’ Senior Matchplay and Ulster Schools’ Scratch Championship. Both of these competitions are played without handicaps. If the team win the Ulster Section of the Irish Senior Matchplay they would qualify for the All-Ireland final.
The School holds a proud tradition of success in these competitions with five All-Ireland appearances, including two victories, in the last seven years. It is our hope to continue this in the future with our up and coming golfers.
