Year 12 Business Studies students are currently undertaking their controlled assessment research and their case study is about a new business owner setting up a jewellery and craft business. As part of their primary research into the reasons for setting up a business, the risks and rewards, the usefulness of aims and the challenges of job production, former pupil Michael Watt from local jewellers Fred J Malcolm Ltd kindly agreed to come in and be interviewed by the boys. During the course of the interview Michael gave the boys an insight into the luxury jewellery market and the ups and downs of running your own business. We also discussed the nature of manufacturing in the jewellery business and the bespoke pieces that sold. We finished by thinking about some of the key concepts of financial accounts. We would like to thank Michael for giving up his time to come into school and to provide such valuable information for the pupils for their assessment.
