SEN provision in RBAI is housed in our Pastoral Hub – an area where pupils with additional educational needs receive individual learning support.
We conduct a range of assessments, then design IEPs (Individual Education Plans) for those pupils on the SEN register. As a result, pupils with Dyslexia, ASD, Dyspraxia, etc., can benefit from our withdrawal support, so that their challenges are addressed on a one-to-one or small group basis.
EXAMINATIONS
Tailored support is provided for those taking external examinations such as GCSE and GCE A level, and who have been assessed by Specialist Assessors, in accordance with JCQ regulations. Our SEN department provides trained scribes, prompters, readers etc., according to the needs of the boy.
IN-SCHOOL PROVISION
Upon recommendation from teachers, our SEN team members can provide other specialist intervention, including reading groups, writing skills sessions and lessons on revision/study techniques.
INTER-AGENCY APPROACH
The school liaises with external agencies including Educational Psychology, Autism Intervention and Education Authority’s Visual and Hearing Impairment service.
We create Transition Plans for pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Needs in Yeargroups 10, 12 and 14. This is carried out in consultation with parents/guardians, E.A.’s Transition Service and the Careers Service, to support each boy’s decision-making process at key stages in his school career.
Language support is provided for Newcomer children.
