Adaptations to exam specifications for Year 12, 13 & 14 pupils (Summer 2022)

CCEA have confirmed with schools the adaptations to exam specifications to take account of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The changes may be summarised as follows.

In the majority of GCSE and GCE qualifications, CCEA has defined one unit of assessment which may be omitted for pupils completing the qualification in Summer 2022.
This unit omission is optional, and the unit will still be available for any pupils wishing to be assessed in all units.
Should pupils choose to sit all units of the GCSE or GCE qualification, they will receive the higher grade from their performance in all units or in the mandatory units only.

Pupils therefore have two options – they can avail of the reduction in the assessment burden by opting to sit a reduced number of units, or alternatively, decide to complete all units.

Year 14 pupils – this will be a key point of discussion at the Parents’ Consultation on 29^th November.

Year 12 & 13 pupils – for those pupils who wish to sit all units, parents should inform the subject teacher in writing by 10^th December.

RBAI also delivers non CCEA exam specifications at GCSE and GCE level. These exam boards are providing their own mitigations to take account of the COVID-19 pandemic, which subject teachers are informing pupils of. However, these mitigations tend not to involve the optionality associated with the CCEA arrangements.
