On Wednesday 19th September around 114 parents/guardians of boys in year 13 attended the annual information evening in the Common Hall. The purpose of the evening is to make parents aware of the transition from GCSE to AS level and the changes this means in terms of timetable and non-timetabled expectations of the school, support required of the parents and to enhance channels of communication between home and school.
The Principal welcomed everyone to the event before Mr Peak presented the main part of the evening. The PowerPoint used is attached for anyone who was unable to attend. The main theme of the talk was Realising potential together. How this could be achieved through support for the pupil from both school and home, the importance of attendance and use of time in both private and home study. Thanks go to Daniel Eakin and Ewan Magee who shared their experiences on both use of time in private study and the usefulness of work experience respectively.
Mr McCann spoke on the support for the learning mentor group and Mr O’Neill outlined the careers guidance given to year 13 and the work experience process. The evening closed with Mr McAfee outlining the importance of focussed use of private study.
Thanks must go to all who gave up their time to attend the event on what was not a very pleasant September evening.
