This was an outstanding Year for the Cricket Club at RBAI. Remarkably we won 5 out of the 7 schools’ cup competitions we entered.
The 1st XI won the Schools’ Cup for a record 10th time in the 32 year history of the competition, defeating Wallace High School by 9 wickets in the final. We won the McCullough Cup Saturday League for the 5th time in 6 years. With this competition involving all school cricket teams, from the Under 12 XI right through to the 1st XI, this consistent success is particularly pleasing.
The Under 12 XI, the Under 14 XI and 2nd XI won their main competitions, with the Under 13 XI winning the Mourne Cup Plate.
The school continues to develop its facilities and we are extremely fortunate to now have a new fully enclosed 4 bay net system that will hopefully ensure that participation and excellence in cricket continues at the school.
With the 2017 season ending in June, July brought together a total of 85 boys who took part in this year's summer courses for new year 8 entrants, organised in conjunction with Instonians Cricket Club. New friends were made, great fun was had and excellent progress made with cricket skills. All the boys participated with great enthusiasm (even in the rain!) and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
