With more of us than ever utilising smartphones and wearable technology to measure our fitness, A’ level Design & Technology student Paul Robinson was inspired to develop a compact ‘beep test’ kit for budding athletes.
A beep test is a universal method of testing an athlete’s fitness, and involves cones, a speaker and tape measure to conduct the test in conjunction with a smartphone app.
Paul’s goal was to remove the need for multiple devices and different parts of equipment, preventing them from getting lost or damaged. Paul explained;
‘My design is a very effective way to create a compact and unique product which allows athletes to carry out a beep test easily and accurately. The kit contains a Bluetooth speaker, tape measure and multiple storage facilities. The main base is manufactured from aluminum and splits into two even parts that can be used to replace the need for cones.’
