Cory is now in Upper Sixth, and, in his last year as a pupil of the school, he has kindly agreed to perform in a Gala evening to raise funds for Inst. He will be supported by contributions from very talented musicians at the school.
Inst has a musical tradition, which makes up some of the most highly anticipated and attended events in the school calendar. The recent charity concert is a shining example of this; it was performed over two nights with a high turnout for both events. The concert raised, over two nights £4,268 for CLIC Sargent, a charity, which dedicates care to children and young people suffering from cancer.
Recently the Junior School celebrated their annual prize day. A musical medley by our choir, orchestra and band ensured that the afternoon started on a high note. We were delighted to have former Instonian, his Honour, Tom Burgess, LLB, Immediate Past Recorder of the City of Belfast (RBAI 1954-1961) as our guest speaker. The chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr C D Gowdy, Senior Management Team, Teachers and Parents were all there to celebrate the achievements of our junior school pupils. Congratulations to all those boys who received prizes.
The Bar Music and Drama Society of the Royal Courts of Justice hosted Cory Shen and pupils of RBAI in concert on Saturday 10th November 2012. Cory Shen is currently in Upper Sixth and is recognised as a most promising concert pianist with an extensive and impressive repertoire. He won first prize at the Rose of Sharon Cup at the South Korean and China International Competition in 2005. He performed at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast in April 2010 and was invited by the BBC to play at Armagh Cathedral for a Radio Ulster recording in February 2012.
