Year 10 Mathematicians celebrate Maths Week Ireland

On Friday 18th October 2019, five of RBAI’s finest mathematicians at KS3 level spent the afternoon at Queen’s University Belfast. Joshua Holmes, Thomas Lowry, Luke Nelson, Callum Soper, Peter Wright took part in the Julia Robinson Maths Festival, organised for Maths Week Ireland. Pupils from schools across Northern Ireland were given the opportunity to tackle various problems and puzzles around the room while working together and developing their thinking skills. The activities included rope puzzles, finding a route within a large number grid and learning how the card game “Dobble” was created and how to create something similar.

This was an excellent opportunity for mathematical thinking outside of the classroom and to see both the applications of some topics they had studied, as well as the enjoyable and satisfying part of Maths.

The boys are already looking forward to next year’s celebration!
