Commerce Week: Day 2

To begin the second day of Commerce Week we were fortunate enough to be the first year that got to visit BAFTA award winning media company JAM who specialise mainly in animation productions. During the time we were there, we got the opportunity to tour the offices where their work is produced witnessing first-hand the various aspects which are involved in their animations. We rounded this off with the chance to view some of their previous and upcoming productions; it was fascinating to see the level of detail involved.

Following this, we made the short journey to the relatively new Grand Central Hotel in the heart of Belfast, which is one of the many hotels within the Hastings Group. Here, we were spoiled by the hospitality of the staff at the hotel.
We were given an introduction to the hospitality industry, as well as a tour of the extremely impressive hotel. To top it off we got the chance to have a go at making ‘mocktails’ before being provided with an excellent lunch in the exclusive observatory lounge where we enjoyed spectacular views across the whole of Belfast.

To finish the day we headed to Carson McDowell, one of the largest law firms in Belfast. This proved to be an excellent experience and was very different to the previous places we had visited.

After an introduction into what Carson McDowell do as a commercial law firm, we were given a taste of what the world of law entails. Through a series of practical exercises rounded off with a negotiation situation, everyone in the room was given the chance to get involved; this was extremely insightful for all involved.

Thank you so much to JAM Media, Hasting Hotels and Carson McDowell, all of whom who made today such a success and have given us an insight into their respective industries. The day was not only really informative but thoroughly enjoyable!
